The resume is the first
impression that you give to a recruiter or hiring manager at
a potential employer. Needless to say, it
has to show you in your best. The Resume
Builder offers a powerful tool to effectively determine the contents of your resume
and build a solid resume that lets you shine above all others. |

Length
of your resume: Use your own judgment to determine the length of the
resume. Some experts advise on keeping it to 1 or 2 pages. While this might be an
optimum length to express your profile, do not let the length constrain you
from expressing some key point. Some methods to trim the length of the resume
include avoiding repetitive information, eliminating any details on older
experience and avoiding personal information.
Organization: Make sure that your resume is
organized so that a hiring manager can get your key strengths with a 10 to 15
seconds scrutiny. This can be done by highlighting key strengths in a bold font
and moving those to the top of the resume.
Spelling and Grammar: There is no excuse at all
to have spelling mistakes or grammatical errors in the resume or the cover
letter. If you do not have an editor's eye, use the word processor's spell
check feature.

Objective: Write a clear job objective that
states what your career goals are. Make sure that you do not mention job titles
(as they hold different meanings in different companies). Include the primary
skills that might be required for the job in your objective. Tailor the
objective to the job requirements. Include specifics only if they are important
for you.
Skill
Set: Immediately after the objective, document your skills, highlighting
the key ones in bold. Make sure you categorize your skills for readability.
(e.g. Separate Programming Languages and Platforms as separate categories). If
the job does not emphasize on tangible skills, then keep the skills at the end
of the resume.
Experience: Determine if your profile shines out
in chronological listing of experience or a functional one. If chronological,
then organize your experience with the most current experience listed first. If
functional, then organize your resume with all your functional experience with
the strongest experience listed first. Note that a functional experience can be
used if there are many gaps in your experience. For either of the styles, make
sure that you quantify your contributions and the responsibilities you
fulfilled.
